The Power of Words

Scripture Verse:

“And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, ‘Let no fruit grow on you ever again’. Immediately the fig tree withered away. And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, ‘How did the fig tree wither away so soon?’ So Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea’, ‘it will be done. And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive’.” Matthew 21:19-22

Application:

I believe most people think that faith only works in the positive... always for healing, saving, restoring, redeeming, etc. But according to Jesus words in the verses above, faith is a force that can bring about building up or tearing down; depending on the kinds of Words we use.

We are exhorted by the Word of God to only speak to each other “what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers”(Ephesians 4:29). Why? Because your words, spoken in faith, have power to build and power to destroy.

But do not despair if you find that you have developed a pattern of speaking negative and destructive words. Prayerfully, look back into your childhood and find all the destructive words that were spoken over you. Release the list of negative and destructive words over to God and ask Him to reverse each one of them into a praise worthy and edifying Word over you.

Make a new habit today… start speaking to yourself and to people all around you with words of life and healing.

Expect to bear beautiful fruit and to receive good fruit from those on whom you speak life and healing.
